What a fun cocktail or dessert for any 4th of July BBQ, picnic, or party! These Star Spangled Jello Shots are the ultimate patriotic treat to celebrate the holiday with your friends and family.
They look much more difficult and time-consuming to make than they actually are. Trust us, you’ve got this! By breaking the process down into simple, manageable steps, you can create a stunning, layered masterpiece that will have everyone coming back for more.
Ingredients You'll Need
Gather these simple ingredients to craft your perfect red, white, and blue batch:
- 1 box cherry jello (3 ounces)
- 1 box blue jello (3 ounces)
- 1 package Knox unflavored gelatin
- 1/3 cup cream of coconut
- 1 cup vodka (total)
- 1 1/2 cups triple sec (total)
- Tiny champagne glasses
- Festive star picks
- 2 standard loaf pans
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prepare Your Pans
Start by preparing your two loaf pans. Lightly spray them with non-stick cooking spray, then blot the inside with a paper towel to remove any excess oil.
2. Make the Red and Blue Layers
Dissolve the cherry jello in 1 cup of hot water. Add 1/2 cup of vodka and 1/2 cup of triple sec, then pour the mixture into your first loaf pan and chill until set. Repeat this exact same process with the blue jello in the second loaf pan.
3. Slice the Cubes
Once the red and blue jello is completely firm, run a sharp knife dipped in hot water around the edges of the pans to loosen the edges. Slice the jello into small cubes, making sure to dip your knife in hot water between each cut. Gently flip up all the jello cubes with a flat spatula.
4. Brew the White Jello Base
For the white jello, whisk the 1/3 cup cream of coconut into 1 cup of cool water. Sprinkle the Knox unflavored gelatin over the surface and let it sit for 3 minutes to bloom. Stir the mixture over low heat until completely dissolved, then remove from heat, add 1/2 cup of triple sec, and let it cool at room temperature.
5. Jellinate and Assemble!
Use your Jellinator to cleanly fill your tiny champagne glasses about 2/3 full of the cooled white jello mixture. Using your fingers, gently drop 5 to 6 of the red and blue jello cubes into each glass of white jello.
6. Chill and Garnish
Refrigerate the assembled glasses until they are completely set. Right before serving, garnish each glass with your festive star picks!
Pro Tips and Flavor Variations
Want to mix up the flavor profile? Peach schnapps can be used in place of the triple sec in any or all of the jello preparations. It complements the triple sec flavor nicely if you decide to use both.
For example, you can use peach schnapps in the white jello layer, and use triple sec in the red and blue jellos. Note that you will still use the vodka in the red and blue mixtures regardless of your choice of schnapps!
